What is Feng Shui and Can it Improve Your Life?

Saturday, March 19th, 2011

What is feng shui? That is a very challenging question to answer. Feng shui is an ancient Chinese art that seeks to restore the balance of vital energies in the environment. It is a system of aesthetics that is believed to utilize the laws of both heaven (astronomy) and Earth (geography) to improve your life by receiving positive energy. This positive energy is also known as the "chi." It is believed that this balanced flow of energy can bring good health and prosperity to those who respect and follow it. The chi, according to Chinese philosophy, is the essential energy that can make or break the kingdom. Traditionally, feng shui has been used to determine the best place to live, to farm and to be buried.

Feng shui has been somewhat reinvented by new age entrepreneurs since Richard Nixon's trip to China in 1972. Its popularity has risen from the American's desire for magic and mystery as well as order in their lives. Feng shui design has become a popular trend for interior design in residences as well as in corporate settings. (more…)

Feng Shui Elements - Advice

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

Feng Shui is an ancient spiritual discipline based on Yin, Yang and five elements theory. With the proper use of Feng Shui elements in your living spaces you can have Yin, negative energies and Yang, positive energies, perfectly balanced. The harmonious surroundings created by the Feng Shui designs have their positive influences on your life.A practical advice on how Feng Shui elements should be used in interior design is given only after a through assessment of Feng Shui elements of your living space. A proper adjustment of Feng Shui elements helps us regain control over our lives. With practical Feng Shui interior design changes, your environment has a positive effect on you. All Feng Shui elements have their own unique properties and should be used properly.

The five Feng Shui elements water, wood, fire, metal, and earth help balance the competing energies in your home by negating and supporting each other's energy. Creatively used Feng Shui elements in home design maintain the yin and yang balance of your environment. There are five elements of Feng Shui. One element water, as in trickling fountain, can symbolize networking, communication, professional opportunities and wealth, while sink water, toilet water or waste water may symbolize loss of money or poor health.

Wood is another Feng Shui element that promotes development and creative energies in its surroundings. You can use wooden objects to promote motivation, inspiration and passion. Metals are transmitters or conductors of energy. Introduction of a metal generates attention and it is also associated with strength.

Another element of Feng Shui, earth is associated with solidity, stability and permanence. Fire is the most powerful of all five elements. It represents energy and passion and is represented in bright or Yang colors.

Though the Feng Shui elements are important individually, what is more important is the positive or destructive effect that each element can have on one another. For example if you have a room that lacks the wood element, using a wooden Feng Shui decorating would not suffice. You need water element as well because it enables wood to grow. When you attain "ideal" Chi (not too fast, and not too slow) the balance and harmony to your life will return and that can be done with the thoughtful use of Feng Shui elements in interior design.

Feng Shui Tips for the California Real Estate Market

Thursday, January 20th, 2011

Los Altos, CA (PRWEB) October 15, 2006

Jim Porter's home in Eldorado Hills, CA was on the market for weeks. "It was basically dead in the water. Absolutely no calls and no interest," he says. However, after a consultation with a Feng Shui practitioner, Porter received four offers within 24 hours. "The Feng Shui of a home can be as important as a great neighborhood or a top-notch school district," says Porter.

In a sluggish real estate market, some sellers are using the ancient art of Feng Shui to put up the "sold" sign and get the moving trucks rolling. It can be exasperating trying to sell a home when a parade of buyers just shake their head and claim the house does not feel right to them. Feng Shui helps to explain this phenomenon.

Literally meaning wind and water, Feng Shui (pronounced fung shway) is the Chinese art of design and placement. This ancient discipline is based on the belief that vital life energy, or Chi, flows everywhere – in nature, buildings, and in people. If Chi is unrestricted in one's environment, it will promote a healthier, more successful life. However, if Chi is blocked, it can cause stress.

Feng Shui practitioner Marina Lighthouse (www.lighthousefengshui.com), who helped Porter sell his home, says that the most important Feng Shui tip that she recommends to her clients is to focus on the front of their house. "Realtors call it curb appeal. Feng Shui consultants call it 'your face to the world'," she says. "You should make it as welcoming as possible."

According to the art of Feng Shui, many factors can impede the flow of energy. Conversely, adjustments can be made to unblock or facilitate that flow. "It's impossible to change the architecture of a building to open up the free-flowing of energy," Lighthouse says, "However, a transcendental cure can take the form of an object that wards off or reflects bad Chi." Wind chimes, the soothing sound of water, mirrors, crystals, green plants, and fresh flowers are some of the adjustments used by experts to facilitate the flow of energy through an environment.

Lighthouse points to Las Vegas as an example of how people have improved the Feng Shui of a natural environment, thus making it more attractive to tourists as well as home-buyers. The inclusion of elements such as water, light, tall buildings, mirrors, and movement, she says, has made Las Vegas one of the fastest growing cities in the nation.

Feng Shui does clash with traditional Islamic beliefs. Though original injunction was not to worship `graven images` which progressed to destruction of icons worshiped by followers of other religions and later restricted displaying any image, portrait, picture, photograph, painting, statues and sculptures in Muslim houses and business places.

But Feng Shui doesn't clash with the Christian, the Hindu, the Parsi, the Sikh, the Jain. (more…)
