Feng Shui Tips for the California Real Estate Market

Thursday, January 20th, 2011

Los Altos, CA (PRWEB) October 15, 2006

Jim Porter's home in Eldorado Hills, CA was on the market for weeks. "It was basically dead in the water. Absolutely no calls and no interest," he says. However, after a consultation with a Feng Shui practitioner, Porter received four offers within 24 hours. "The Feng Shui of a home can be as important as a great neighborhood or a top-notch school district," says Porter.

In a sluggish real estate market, some sellers are using the ancient art of Feng Shui to put up the "sold" sign and get the moving trucks rolling. It can be exasperating trying to sell a home when a parade of buyers just shake their head and claim the house does not feel right to them. Feng Shui helps to explain this phenomenon.

Literally meaning wind and water, Feng Shui (pronounced fung shway) is the Chinese art of design and placement. This ancient discipline is based on the belief that vital life energy, or Chi, flows everywhere – in nature, buildings, and in people. If Chi is unrestricted in one's environment, it will promote a healthier, more successful life. However, if Chi is blocked, it can cause stress.

Feng Shui practitioner Marina Lighthouse (www.lighthousefengshui.com), who helped Porter sell his home, says that the most important Feng Shui tip that she recommends to her clients is to focus on the front of their house. "Realtors call it curb appeal. Feng Shui consultants call it 'your face to the world'," she says. "You should make it as welcoming as possible."

According to the art of Feng Shui, many factors can impede the flow of energy. Conversely, adjustments can be made to unblock or facilitate that flow. "It's impossible to change the architecture of a building to open up the free-flowing of energy," Lighthouse says, "However, a transcendental cure can take the form of an object that wards off or reflects bad Chi." Wind chimes, the soothing sound of water, mirrors, crystals, green plants, and fresh flowers are some of the adjustments used by experts to facilitate the flow of energy through an environment.

Lighthouse points to Las Vegas as an example of how people have improved the Feng Shui of a natural environment, thus making it more attractive to tourists as well as home-buyers. The inclusion of elements such as water, light, tall buildings, mirrors, and movement, she says, has made Las Vegas one of the fastest growing cities in the nation.

Clutter and Feng Shui

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

Part of having good feng shui is clutter management. If anything, clutter is the biggest hindrance you can have for the best flow of chi, prosperity and goodness in your life. However, few people are able to manage their clutter wisely. On a daily basis, we get tons and tons of stuff we won’t be really using for a long time. Here are some tips for you to help reduce clutter and invite good Feng Shui.

Anti-Clutter Feng Shui Tip 1: Sort your mail as it comes in

Incoming mail is one of the top sources of clutter. All those bills are not just stressful if mismanaged and stashed somewhere in your home, but it is also contributory to clutter in your home. If you are really serious about getting good Feng Shui, make sure that you are able to screen your mail. Establish a system for sorting all your mail. Applying Feng Shui to Your Home and Patio

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

feng shuiApplying feng shui to your home does not mean you have to hire an interior designer or expert of feng shui. Instead, there are some simple ways you can increase the feng shui of your home. For those that are beginners in regards to feng shui, this article will offer a few basic tips you can make your home a beautiful place to dwell within.

The first key to making your home a place you wish to live in, is to identify the problem areas of your home. Maybe there is a bathroom or bedroom you simply never enter, because you do not like being in those rooms. Maybe you love your kitchen, but the den is a disaster. Other areas that people frequently forget about are the garage and a backdoor patio or deck. It is crucial that you place these rooms on a list of rooms that need better feng shui.

After you have identified the rooms that need more attention, you can proceed with actually implementing some feng shui tips. When starting out, it is best to keep a relaxed approach. Instead of feeling the need to make your home perfect in one day, try to pick a room to work on throughout the week.

One feng shui tip that is easy to implement for beginners is checking the flow of chi in your home. This involves a simple visualization technique, that can be helpful in determining which areas to work on in your home. Visualize water flowing throughout your home. If there is a place it stops due to bad energy, then work on this area. For example, many people have a patio that the "water" does not even touch, because it is empty or too cluttered. If your patio is still sparse, then create good energy in the area by placing a set of chairs and table in the area. Also, you may want to place a fire pit in the area, to make it a place that is more readily enjoyed by you, your family, and your guests.

You can also apply feng shui to your patio by considering if it is a place for social gatherings or a place for personal refuge. This will help you better decide how to design your patio. For example, you may want to place a larger table and chair set on the patio if it is for social gatherings. Or, you may want to place more bushes and trees in the area if it is for a personal refuge.

However you decide to design your patio and home is up to you. However, improving the feng shui of its design can lead you to a happier life spent in the home you have worked so hard to earn!
